Server Operating Systems
What is a Server Operating System?
Your operating system is the interface between your server hardware and the applications or software that run on the server. The operating system is essentially the host that allows your computer to run applications. The operating system is like the supervisor of your computer; it manages the resources that are available and coordinates the activities that need to take place. This frees up applications to do their work without having to worry about the details of the computer hardware. They simply put in a request to the operating system for what they need to complete their task and wait for the response from the resource manager, the operating system. All computers use some form of operating system; without it the computer hardware would be useless. Common server operating systems include Microsoft Windows, Linux and UNIX.
