Network Infrastructure – Routers and Routing

What is a Network Router?

Routers play an essential role; they allow information to travel between networks quickly and effectively. Routers are crucial for companies that use more than one network; think of them as traffic controllers. They ensure that information gets where it needs to go and help to protect networks from one another by ensuring that traffic does not spill over. The internet, for example, could not function without the use of routers to direct messages across tens of thousands of disparate networks.
